HEALTH PROBLEM: OBESITY
Obesity:
Causes:
- Genetic Factors: Recent research suggest that, on average, the genetic influence contributes 33 per cent of body weight, but this influence may be higher or lower in a particular person.
-Socioeconomic Factors: These factors strongly influence obesity, specially among women. The reason why socio-economic factors have such a powerful influence on the weight of women is not fully understood, but it is known that measures against obesity increase with social status.
-Psychological Factors: Emotional disorders, which for a time were considered as a major cause of obesity, are now seen as a reaction to the strong prejudices and discrimination against obese people.
-Factors Related to Development: An increase in size or number of fat cells, or both,in addition to the amount of stored body fat.
-Physical Activity: Reduced physical activity is probably one of the main reasons for the increase of obesity among people in affluent societies.
- Hormones: Some hormonal disorders can cause obesity, such as cushing syndrome, adrenal insufficiency, diabetes, etc.
-Brain Injury: Only in rare cases, brain injury, especially the hypothalamus, can result in obesity.
-Drugs: Certain drugs used frequently cause weight gain, such as prednisone ( a corticosteroid) and many antidepressants, as well as many other drugs used to treat psychiatric disorders.
Consequences:
- Cardiovascular Problems: Thoracic pressure and Angina,Tachycardia Effort,Myocardial Infarction,etc.
